Periodontal Maintenance Cleanings in Tampa, FL

Periodontal disease is quite similar to any other chronic illness. The best way to control it is by early detection and maintenance. Periodontal maintenance cleaning is a treatment performed to keep your periodontal (gum) disease controlled. This cleaning should be performed 3-4 times per year (every 3-4 months), depending on how severe your gums are. Your dentist will recommend the number of times per year you must get a perio maintenance.

This type of teeth cleaning is not a prophylaxis cleaning. Most patients get this confused. Prophylaxis is regular cleaning, while a periodontal cleaning (perio maintenance) is a procedure done after you have received a Scaling and Root Planing treatment.

The Treatment Procedure

Our dentists or the hygienist will focus on your teeth and gum line during this procedure. The following is what happens during your visit for a perio maintenance cleaning.

  • We'll review your oral and medical history.
  • The hygienist will perform a periodontal examination and measure the size of your periodontal pockets.
  • Followed by using our electronic Cavitron to clean your teeth.
  • Finally, your teeth will be cleaned and polished.
