Periodontal disease is quite similar to any other chronic illness. The best way to control it is by early detection and maintenance. Periodontal maintenance cleaning is a treatment performed to keep your periodontal (gum) disease controlled. This cleaning should be performed 3-4 times per year (every 3-4 months), depending on how severe your gums are. Your dentist will recommend the number of times per year you must get a perio maintenance.
This type of teeth cleaning is not a prophylaxis cleaning. Most patients get this confused. Prophylaxis is regular cleaning, while a periodontal cleaning (perio maintenance) is a procedure done after you have received a Scaling and Root Planing treatment.
The Treatment Procedure

- We'll review your oral and medical history.
- The hygienist will perform a periodontal examination and measure the size of your periodontal pockets.
- Followed by using our electronic Cavitron to clean your teeth.
- Finally, your teeth will be cleaned and polished.
